ECS VIDEO SERIES: Diana Tzvetkov (IAMAS)

Meet Diana!
Diana Tzvetkov is climate modeling scientist from Belgium, currently working as a research assistant at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium. Her work focuses on understanding how climate change and land-cover dynamics shape local climate conditions, with a particular interest in their impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity.

Diana is involved in the FOURCAST project, a collaborative initiative bringing together multiple partners across Belgium. The project aims to understand how changes in local climate conditions influence living organisms, linking climate science directly to biodiversity research.

Her research addresses key questions such as how global warming and land cover changes affect local climate conditions in Belgium. She studies the evolution of the Belgian climate throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, showing that observed changes are driven not only by global climate change but also by anthropogenic land-cover transformations. In her work, Diana combines climate modelling with detailed spatial analyses, using maps and climatological observations to illustrate how land cover can be incorporated into climate models and how it modifies local climate patterns.
