ECS involvement in IASPEI

IASPEI benefits from an active and growing community of Early-Career Scientists (ECS). In this blog post, we highlight the involvement of ECS within IASPEI – the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (http://iaspei.org). The IASPEI ECS group was initiated during the IUGG General Assembly 2023 in Berlin, where early-career researchers identified the need for a stronger international network in seismology and Earth interior physics.

The IASPEI ECS group aims to connect students and early-career researchers worldwide and to enhance their visibility and participation within the Association. The group promotes international exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration across IASPEI Commissions and Working Groups, and the organisation of dedicated ECS activities at IASPEI and IUGG conferences. It also facilitates dialogue between early-career scientists and the broader IASPEI leadership, ensuring that emerging perspectives are represented in scientific and strategic discussions.

Through conference sessions, newsletter contributions, community initiatives, and social media engagement, IASPEI ECS members contribute to strengthening global collaboration in seismology. The network places particular emphasis on inclusion, accessibility, and creating supportive spaces where young scientists can exchange ideas, develop initiatives, and receive constructive feedback.
